The Seattle Times: Gates announces early release of more-secure browser

So, there actually will be a new version of Internet Explorer before the next version of Windows.

When's the new version of Windows is coming out? How will it be called and will it be different from XP?

The next version of Windows is currently called "Longhorn." That won't be the final name though. Windows 95 was called "Chicago" at this point in its history. They'll probably call it Windows 2007, as I think that it might take that long for it to come out.

The features I know about make almost no difference for the computer user - they are targeted at businesses and at programmers. Here are some things that will come:

- A new version of Internet Explorer
- New animation functionality.
- Faster searching for files

Most of it, like I said, is targeted at businesses and people who make software (like me!)

Nothing for the likes of me then... (Homeusers) Oh well! : )

I bet by the time it is released there will be lots of cool stuff in it for home users. Microsoft tends to save that part of it for last. They make the plumbing first (for the software developers and businesses.)

We just don't know what the home user bells and whistles will be yet.
