Ardeth Wood case

Two years ago, a woman using recreational trails that are all over the city of Ottawa was abducted and killed by an assailant whose sketch artist picture was on the cover of papers for weeks. The city was traumatized.

A suspect has been charged, one Christopher Myres. I've done some digging and found information about the North Bay incident that got the suspect into custody.

Here's the North Bay incident as announced in the North Bay police's news reports:

A North Bay blogger, Faith Love Dreams, has quoted a North Bay news story from that time period. It seems the woman who was assaulted was potentially saved from Ardeth's fate by a rescuer with a shovel.

It is a dubious honour, but true enough. We've had stranger, more dramatic cases than anyone, I think - from the Stephen Truscott mystery all the way to this... I just feel terrible for the Wood family. They're facing many more years of having the loss of their daughter brought under the microscope...

What's the Truscott mystery?

He was a young boy sentenced to death for the murder of a girl he gave a ride to on his bicycle. He was convicted on coroner's evidence that was highly suspect, and on the basis of constantly-changing witness testimony.

In recent years, an alarming amount of evidence suggests an Air Force non-com stationed at a nearby base might have been involved.

Truscott was not hanged, but has also never been cleared. A senior citizen now, he is still trying to clear his name. I've followed this story since I first read about in the the Saturday magazine when I was eleven.
